Yep, it’s a boy! Our beautiful 8lb11oz son was born at 4.54pm this afternoon, 13 April 2011, via emergency caesarian section.
I will blog the details in a few days, but we were at the point of refusing any further exams as K just could not cope at all due to past trauma and was still going into shock when they even took her blood pressure. We’ll never know if they would have agreed to going straight to a caesar at that point, although the doctor was aware that K was close to her end point this morning and very understanding, but The Boy also started getting tachycardic and distressed which gave them the elusive ‘medical reason’ and therefore it became an emergency rather than elective. And wow, they move fast when they want to!
He was certainly burrowed in deep and not too happy about coming out, it took a fair bit of work and forceps to get him out. He had a few breathing issues for the first 20 minutes or so but luckily sorted himself out just in time to avoid a trip to NICU. Mum and baby are both doing really well, now both cuddled up and napping when I left the hospital about 10pm. Hopefully in a day or two they can transfer out of the hospital into one of the birthing units in town which means I’ll be able to stay with them and not worry about stupid archaic visiting hours.
There will of course be more photos to come soon, but I’ll share one with you for now (and the name too – the first name is Gaelic and means ‘chief’ and the second is a variation on BD’s name).
p.s The title quote was from the ultrasound tech who finally confirmed the gender 100%, cracked us up big time but we couldn’t share it with anyone at the time lol.
