A dozen eggs. At our consult, our doc told us he expected about 6-7 so we are stoked to have ended up with twice that many!
Overall it went pretty well, K was anxious about it all when we got there and of course the nurse on duty was our least favourite, Bobble Head. The dr (not one we’d dealt with before) came in and talked to us a little and then the anaesthetist came in. He was awesome! He was such a laid back, easy going guy and did his best to put K’s fears to rest. Then the embryologist came in and said she remembered us from our counselling appointment (2 years ago now – our counsellor asked her in to explain some things) so that was cool.
Once we got into the room and the anaethetist pumped the drugs into K she got dopier and dopier, then chattier and chattier lol She doesn’t remember anything after a certain point and she certainly doesn’t remember any pain which is awesome. She’s feeling a bit crampy now and tired but other than that it was all plain sailing.
There were 2 nurses, the doctor and the anaesthetist in the room so unfortunately I wasn’t able to sit where I could see the screen, but it was still very cool watching everything else. After the first vial of fluid the embryologist yelled out that there were 3 eggs – it was so exciting! Things did slow down a bit after that but it was still a buzz every time another egg was found. The dr and everyone were all really happy about how it was going and there was such a supportive, positive vibe going on it was awesome. After all the shit we’ve gone through with them, it felt like they are really on our side and were excited for us which was choice.
So now we are back home watching movies, K is resting on the couch and the eggs are all in the hands of the lovely embryologist, and we get to phone in at 10am tomorrow to get the first update.
